Zoning and Land Use

LogoOur zoning and land use practice goes hand-in-hand with our environmental work. We focus on assisting local governments with pro-active legal mechanisms for protecting their community’s character, managing growth in a positive way, and combating sprawl. We assist our municipal clients in seeking out and implementing beneficial strategies for addressing such issues as farmland protection, historic preservation, environmental and natural features ordinances, and the preservation of rural character.

We also assist residents and community groups in defending their interests and their neighborhoods before local planning and supervisory boards. We have represented clients in all phases of zoning and land use litigation, as well, including recent successes in the Michigan Supreme Court and Michigan Court of Appeals.
