Bottled Water is Not an "Essential Public Service"

Michigan's Court of Appeals has ruled that Nestle's water-bottling operation is not an "essential public service" in a case regarding building a pumping station in the township of Osceola. This is a huge step forward as many other cities and organizations in the state hope to stop Nestle's operation in Michigan for good.

Last week the City of Mackinac Island filed papers to join the challenge initiated last summer by the Straits of Mackinac Alliance against the MDEQ’s decision to issue permits to Enbridge for the installation of 22 anchor supports to prop up the aging Line 5 petroleum pipeline which lies under the waters of the Straits of Mackinac. Citing risks to its municipal water supply, potential interruption of ferry service supplying the Island, and the possibility of evacuation in the event of a Line 5 spill, the City has also filed a new challenge, together with the Straits of Mackinac Alliance ...
