A series of recent pieces in the Detroit Free Press revealed the role Michigan aggregates industry played in urging MDOT to commission a study which has frequently been cited by the industry as demonstrating an imminent shortage of gravel in the state. Recently Abandoned Gravel Mining Bill May Be Revived Again, Could Have Ramifications Across Michigan

To the east of Flint, Michigan lies a tiny village called Metamora. With just one stoplight and a population of 565, Metamora is already home to four gravel pits. Yet, Michigan lawmakers are thinking about reviving a bill that would force another 500-acre gravel pit into the rural area surrounding the village.
